SPAY NEUTER INFORMATION

RBARI does not recommend any one particular animal hospital for spaying and neutering.  There are many great veterinarians.  Some people have an ongoing relationship with their own veterinarian and prefer to have the procedure done there.  This may not be a low cost option.  Below is a list of some low cost options available for spaying or neutering your new pet.

State Spay & Neuter Program:  This program is funded by the state of New Jersey and is only for New Jersey residents who adopt from a New Jersey shelter.  The fee is $20.00 and only covers the basic fee for spay or neuter.  The pet’s shots must be up to date.  A list of veterinarians who participate in the state program is listed on the back of this sheet.  Pets must be up to date on vaccines to participate in program.  Please note that money provided by the state for this program is given to the veterinarians on a quarterly basis.  The money tends to run out before the quarter ends.  Once the money for a quarter is gone, the doctors must wait until the next release of funds before they can do more spays and neuters.  Please make your appointment early!

OTHER LOW COST OPTIONS

Friends of Animals:  Certificates can be purchased from the shelter or online at http://www.friendsofanimals.org/programs/spay-neuter/index.html. If you are interested in a certificate, please contact the shetler for more information.

People for Animals:  Located in Hillside, New Jersey.  Fees include a checkup, distemper and rabies inoculations, and the surgery.  For more information, call 908-964-6887 or 908-964-9888.

Spay USA: For more information, call 800-248-7729. http://www.spayusa.org

Please remember that spaying or neutering your pet helps to control the animal population, enables your pet to be a better member of your family, and inhibits some diseases.
