Foster Homes

Every year during the Spring and Summer months we are overloaded with puppies and kittens. Some come to the shelter with their mothers, some are born at the shelter and still are others that are left at our shelter without mothers to care for them. These little guys need a lot of extra TLC - sometimes even around the clock - if they are going to survive to be strong dogs and cats. WE NEED YOUR HELP! We are in great need of FOSTER HOMES that are willing to give these little guys a chance. Call the shelter today to find out what you can do help.

Some extra time on your hands? . . . Empty Nest? . . . Have a little love to give? What can be more rewarding than helping a helpless animal flourish? Fostering can last from a period of a few days, weeks or months depending on the situation. The shelter provides all supplies as well as veterinary care. You also have contact numbers in case of an emergency. The only thing coming out of your “pocket” is TLC (Tender Loving Care)! You must have a separate room where the animal can be confined. We can provide a cage if necessary.

Foster homes are needed for shy, sick, injured, pregnant or very young animals. You can choose to foster kittens, puppies, cats and dogs. Young animals need to receive lots of human contact in order to develop the social skills that are very important during their development stages. Some animals may need to be given medication during their stay in your home. Kittens/puppies that are too young to eat on their own must be bottle fed. Bottle feeding can be every 2-4 hours (including through the night) depending on their age. All animals are returned to the shelter and placed up for adoption after their time in foster care has ended.

General foster training (3 hour training class) is required before you can become a foster parent. Time commitment: as needed. Spring and summer is the busiest time because of all the stray animals that come to our doors.
